Debajit Kalita pursued B. Sc. (Botany) from Guwahati University, an M.Sc. (Microbiology) from Bangalore University, Karnataka, and a Ph.D. (Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics) from Northeastern Hill University, Shillong, Meghalaya. He had also completed post postgraduate diploma in environmental management (PGDEM) from Tezpur University, a Certificate in Industrial Disaster Management from CUHK, Hong Kong and a Managing Health and Safety in Science Laboratory from HSA, Ireland.
Application-wise, has more than 10 years of research experience in microbiology and 5 years in nanotechnology. He has also experience in handling of BSL3 level pathogenic strains of bacteria and fungi. His PhD thesis is “Isolation and Characterization of Metallophilic Bacteria and their Entrapment with Nanoparticles for bio-Nano Remediation of Heavy Metals from Wastewater.”
During his research tenure, more than 15 research papers, book chapters, conferences (national and international), and patents are credited to Dr. Kalita. He is also an invited reviewer of many reputed international journals published by Springers, Elsevier, SAGE, BioMed, etc. He holds the post of editorial board member of various reputed journals published in the USA, India, Germany, Australia, China, Canada etc. Members of the global advisory group of Nanotechnology of SETAC (USA) are adding value to Dr. Kalita.
Was an organizing member of the international conference on Nanotechnology jointly organized by the Sustainable Nanotechnology Organization (SNO, USA) and Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU, Assam). Dr. Kalita also was a moderator and organizing team member of Asia Pacific Space Generation Workshop (APSGW), supported and catalyzed by the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) in Singapore in 2018. Representing India's official delegate in the Asia Pacific Regional Space Forum (APRSF), 2018.
Dr. Kalita is honored by fellow member Academy of Environment and Life Science and Early career scientist, international distinguished scientist awarded and resource person of farmers.
He is the life member of various international scientific societies such as the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC, USA), the Society for Biotechnologist, the Spanish Society of Microbiology, the European nanoscience and Nanotechnology Association (ENNA, Germany), the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), The International Society of Subsurface Microbiology (USA).
